Linux

My first Linux was Mandrake back around 2002-03. While I had it working, it wasn't great. My brother John had heard of new Linux distribution, that was making news at the time, called Ubuntu. In those days, you could fill out a form on their website and they'd send you printed CD in a nice sleeve. John gave me my first Ubuntu disc. So I installed Ubuntu 4.10 "Warty" and never looked back to Windows. Today, I run Fedora Linux on most of my machines. At work, I maintain several Ubuntu servers in virtual machines. And when I'm feeling adventurous, I see what crazy things I can install on Raspberry Pi single board computers.

  • Is Linux for you? - This is a flyer I created for Canton's Repair Fair on April 25th, 2026. You can download the PDF and I've attached additional resources that should help a beginner get started on their Linux journey.
  • Additional Resources - These are links to tutorials that provide some of the basics of installing Linux that I didn't have time to cover in my demo at the repair fair.
